Events of the Future: Round One with Dan Whitzer

In case you missed it, Beth went Live today on Instagram, where she discussed the future of events with Dan Whitzer, co-founder of B. PHL and owner of Posie Productions. The idea came about because, during our time working with the B. PHL team, we inevitably always steered the conversations toward the future and how we could continue to innovate and bring this three day festival to more attendees around the globe.

Each participant brought with them three options - one option that could be incorporated on a wide scale today, one option that could be implemented in the near future on a wide scale, and one that we may not even see come to fruition in our lifetimes.

Here’s where the conversation took us:

Now:

Dan - In 2021, the focus will be on the production value of the event. Multiple camera angles and dynamic shots are going to continue to be the focus of high-end events for the foreseeable future.

Beth - We know all events will be hybrid in the future. With that, the in-person experiences will be the higher priced, “VIP” experiences. However, virtual attendees should still expect to feel like VIPS.

Near Future:

Dan - Augmented reality, as it becomes more widespread and openly available, will be incorporated into events in various ways.

Beth - The vision is a ‘wall’ of robots, who can dial up anyone attending the conference virtually, or conference ‘pods’ in other parts of the world. Giving virtual attendees real-time connection with those on the ground.

Far Future:

Ironically, both answers involved Holograms! Dan talked about using holograms to spotlight and feature speakers in more of a real-life way, from a virtual stage. Beth had an idea of her own, which was inspired by the virtual concerts she’s watched in the summer - technology that allows in-home holograms, so that attendees can ‘summon’ a performer into their living rooms, backyards, or wherever they’re viewing the event from!
